Puli Koddel (Ash Gourd in Tangy Coconut Gravy)


Ingredients:

Ash Gourd- 1 kg cut into bite sized pieces
Salt
Jaggery grated- 3 tsp
3 tsp coriander seeds
1 tsp jeera
1 tsp urad dal
1 tsp chana dal
Raw rice- 1 tsp
1 tsp black sesame seeds
Turmeri pdr- 1/2 tsp
Grated coconut- 1 cup
Tamarind- marble sized
Kashmiri red chillies- 8
Mustard seeds-  2 tsp
Curry leaves

Method :

Boil ash gourd for 15 mins. Add salt and jaggery and boil again for 10 mins.
Masala- (1)--- Roast coriander seeds ,   jeera, urad dal, chana dal in oil for 5 mins. Add  raw rice and black sesame seeds and roast again for 5 mins. Sprinkle turmeric pdr and allow it to cool.
(2)--- Roast grated coconut till light brown. keep aside.
(3)--- Roast red chillies. Keep aside.
Grind the chillies with tamarind. Add ingredients in (1). Grind again. Finally add (2) and grind for 3-4 seconds.
Add this masala to the boiled ash gourd and bring to a boil. Season it with mustard seeds and curry leaves
