Moong Dal Halwa (With Milk Powder)


Ingredients :
1 cup moong dal
1 cup sugar
Half cup water
Half cup ghee (can use more)
2 tsp cardamom powder
1/4 cup chopped cashews and almonds
1/2 cup Milk powder

Method:

  • Soak moong dal for 2 hours and grind into a coarse paste
  • Heat ghee in a non stick kadai and fry the moong dal paste till it turns golden colour. Stir ocassionally. This must be done in a low flame. It may take 35-40 minutes. You can fry it more to enhance the flavour
  • Meanwhile, add sugar and water in another saucepan and bring it to a boil. Switch off the flame.
  • Add the sugar mixture to the monng dal and mix well. Add nuts, milk powder and cardamom powder at this stage
  • Cook again till the halwa becomes thick
  • Adding milk powder gives a very rich flavour to the halwa. You can add Half cup Mawa / khoya instead of milk powder
